Facial Veins – Successful Ways to Treat Facial Veins for a Clearer, More Uniform Complexion

Facial veins, which are most commonly known to men and women as spider veins or telangiectasias, are the small blue, purple or red veins that reside close to the surface of our facial skin. There are many reasons why spider veins initially form—hormones, weight gain, heredity, trauma, certain medications and prolonged standing can all have an effect. When spider veins appear on the skin’s surface, they are still connected to the deeper venous system, but these small spider-like branches serve no specific function or purpose; for this reason, more men and women are searching for ways to remove them. Knowing the cause of your facial veins will help you to find the right treatment that will reduce their appearance for a more uniform complexion.

Because so many men and women currently live with pesky facial veins, several different treatments have been developed to reduce their appearance. The three most common treatments undergone for the removal of unwanted spider veins are Sclerotherapy, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments and laser vein removal treatments. In addition to these vein removal treatments, surgical procedures are also available, however surgical treatments are most often reserved to treat larger varicose or feeder veins; therefore surgical treatments are never undergone to remove facial veins alone.

Sclerotherapy – Sclerotherapy is a spider vein removal treatment that is very common for both men and women; it involves the injection of an irritant solution into the targeted vein via a small needle. Once the needle is inserted into the spider vein, the solution administered is designed to create internal swelling within the vein. Once the vein is swollen, the swelling causes it to shut itself down; once shut down, it will be naturally eliminated by the body. Several sclerotherapy treatments may be necessary in order to remove all unwanted veins, but after a treatment series, patients can see fantastic results.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) – Intense pulsed light vein removal treatments are designed to eliminate unwanted spider veins through the use of pulsed laser technology. During each treatment session, the laser light effectively penetrates through the outer layers of skin in order to target the dermis at several different wavelength depths. At this point, the energy from the laser light converts into heat, and this heat cauterizes the blood flow to the spider veins, effectively cutting them off from the deeper venous system and rendering them inactive. Once the facial veins are deprived of blood, they will shrivel up and be naturally absorbed and eradicated by the body.

Laser Spider Vein Removal – Laser vein removal treatments for unwanted facial veins are similar to intense pulsed light treatments; however instead of targeting the dermis layers of skin with multiple laser wavelengths, laser treatments utilize one continuous wavelength of light. While both of these light based treatment options are effective, patients who undergo true laser treatments often see results faster because, when the laser energy is concentrated at one specific wavelength, it is stronger. Like IPL treatments, with true laser treatments, the heat from the laser energy also cuts off the blood supply to the veins so that they can be naturally expelled by the body.

Before choosing a facial vein removal treatment, be sure to do adequately research them all—this will help you to determine which the best is for your individual needs. Once you find a vein treatment that works, you’ll experience a clearer, more uniform complexion that lasts.
